French Singer Performs for Fulton County Students

 

Centennial French Honors students joined other Fulton County French students at Milton High last week to expand their knowledge of the language and to enjoy a concert by French singer Eric Vincent.

 

Students Inducted into National Technical Honor Society

 

 



 

 

Thirteen students were inducted into Centennial's National Technical Honor Society this week. Jeremy Schwartz presided at the ceremony. In order to be in NTHS, the students have to  be in their 3^rd year of a career tech pathway, with a career tech average of a 90% and an overall GPA of an 88. They must belong to a Career Tech Student Organization and have no out of school suspensions.

Habitudes Raises Funds for NFCC

 

After selling Halloween Boo Grams, Centennial’s Habitudes students cleared $104.50 for Thanksgiving donations to North Fulton Community Charities!

 

 

BVP Students Tour CNN

 


Broadcast Video Production students got a behind-the-scenes look at CNN and HLN on November 14.  During the job shadowing tour, students were allowed to go beyond the regular public tour to see inside the studio, control room, and newsrooms. Students interacted with the staff to see how jobs at CNN translate to Centennial’s TV Station.

 

Centennial Students Tour Life University

 

 

 

 

Centennial students enjoyed a field trip to Life University near Marietta, GA on Monday.  They were given campus and facility tours, enjoyed multiple speakers and presentations, spoke to the Dean of Students, and had pizza provided. Juniors were given the opportunity to apply and have the application fee waived.

Skills USA Members Participate in Fall Rally

 

 

Centennial High School SkillsUSA members participated in the SkillsUSA Georgia Fall Rally in Perry, Georgia on October 4^th. The students were able to meet new faces from other schools and districts as well as participate in Georgia’s State Fair! Our very own Brandon Hamilton represents Centennial High School as parliamentarian for the Georgia SkillsUSA.  

 

 Students Selected for Leader Academy

 

 

 

Last month 29 Centennial student leaders traveled to Georgia Tech to participate in a kick-off rally for the Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy.  Close to 600 students from the metro Atlanta area came together to enjoy everything from motivational speakers to a hands-on service project packaging 25,000 meals for Kids Against Hunger and a Chick-Fil-A lunch, of course. The students will meet monthly for a motivational curriculum provided by the Academy to plan then execute Impact Projects this spring.  Chick-Fil-A piloted this program with three schools last year, jumped to 23 schools this year, plan to go statewide next year, and look forward to taking the program nationwide Fall 2015. Centennial was selected out of all the high schools in the Northeast and Northwest Learning Communities to represent Fulton County Schools.

 

 FBLA Students Visit Middle Schools 



 

 

Centennial members of the Future Business Leaders of America visited Holcomb Bridge Middle School to talk about careers.  They also introduced FBLA and its leadership and business concepts. 

 

Cheer Team Focuses on Elementary Red Ribbon Week

 Connor O’Neill was honored at the Fulton County Board of Education meeting for placing in the top 10 in the HOSA National Competition. Earlier this year he was honored by the State Superintendent Dr. John Barge at a reception.

The HOSA competition is designed to encourage Health Science students to develop and/or refine the skills necessary to apply for and obtain employment. Competitors apply for any health care related position for which they are trained or being trained then prepare a cover letter and resume to bring with them to the conference. At the conference, competitors complete a job application and participate in a job interview

 

 District V Honors Chorus Hosted by Centennial Director

CHS chorus students had the privilege of working with Dr. David Morrow from Morehouse College at this year’s District V Honor Chorus.  They were part of the High School ensemble of approximately 130 singers from Fulton County, Atlanta Public Schools, and various local private schools. Chelsea Burney (CHS Choral Director) hosted this year’s event at the Roswell Presbyterian church, working alongside Dr. Morrow and the High School ensemble. The students rehearsed all day Nov. 1^st and 2^nd, concluding the event with a spectacular concert.

 Law and Justice Students Visit Capitol

Students in Centennial’s Law and Justice Program visited the Georgia State Capitol last week.  They toured the capitol and the museum, plus the House and Senate Chambers.  The trip also included a visit to the Secretary of State’s office and the Governor’s office.

 TSA Competes in Robotics Competition

The Centennial High School TSA entered the VEX Robots and Cardboard Boat competitions at this year’s Fall Leadership Conference.  The robotics team placed 21^st out of 65 competitors.  The boat, however, did not fare as well.  Although it was a great design, entry into the boat by the occupants caused it to roll and take on water…and sink -- a fantastic opportunity to have hands-on learning and a great experience for the students.

 

JROTC Attends Ground-Breaking

On Saturday November 9^th 2013, five cadets from the Centennial HS Army JROTC along with numerous local dignitaries attended the ground breaking ceremony for the John’s Creek Veterans Memorial Walk that will be built at Newtown Park. The Johns Creek Veterans Association in partnership with the City of Johns Creek is building the Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk as a place to celebrate the peace ensured by the service and sacrifice of those in uniform. The Veterans Memorial Walk will feature an entry plaza leading to concrete paths connecting ten memorial plazas. The project is being funded through corporate and private donations and through the sale of engraved pavers in which family and friends can pay tribute to specific veterans. About half of the $13,000 required for the project has been raised.

 

 

 

CTI Students Attend Leadership Conference

 

 

Centennial High School’s CTI program took 6 students to the Annual CTI Fall Leadership Conference.  The students competed in a Quiz Bowl, dinner with a motivational speaker, a dance, Leadership Training classes and exercises.  The students performed very well and were able to interact with other students from around the state to forge and strengthen networks.

 

 

Orchestra Students and Directors Attend ASO 

 

Eighty five orchestra students from Centennial High School, Haynes Bridge Middle School and Holcombe Bridge Middle School, along with their directors, attended the November 15 performance of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.  After the performance of the Bartok Violin Concerto and the ASO Chorus doing Carmina Burana, students were treated to a Q & A with one of the foremost violinists of our time, Gil Shaham.

 

FBLA Attends Conference

Several members of Centennial’s Future Business Leaders of America members attended their annual Fall Leadership Conference in Athens.  The conference hosts students from all over the state.  Several workshops were offered to students. Topics ranged from inspiring and hilarious keynotes to leadership workshops, communications training, officer trainings and presentation coaching.  Students were also able to make preparations for upcoming regional and state competitions.   

 

 

Lacrosse Students Generate Enthusiasm

Athletes from both our boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams traveled to Holcombe Bridge and Haynes Bridge middle schools yesterday to get kids excited about the sport.  Centennial players introduced the middle school students to the sport with trivia and a game of lacrosse.  A new group of lacrosse enthusiasts resulted!

 

Ms. Bernath becomes Principal for the Day

 

 

On Monday, Ms. Julia Bernath, our Board of Education member, became Principal for the Day at Centennial.  Ms. Bernath observed classes and attended an update on school governance pursuits.  She accompanied Ms. Crumbley and Mr. Campbell on a visit to Siemens to meet our student interns and their teacher, Catherine Wise.  They also enjoyed a Thanksgiving lunch.
