Centennial Athletes Help Special Olympians

Earn Medals

 

 

Congratulations to Centennial sophomores Brandon Semones (#663) and Phillipe Lamarche (#1006) for their efforts at the Georgia Special Olympics Summer Games at Emory University.  The boys competed as unified partners, non-disabled peers of traditional Special Olympians, pairing with their teammates to take gold and silver in long distance running.

CHS HOSA Graduates Continue to Serve

HOSA graduates Cassidy Buck and Boyd Sutton remain dedicated after graduation!  Today the pair donated their time to teaching life saving skills to the Holcomb Bridge Middle School 6th graders for Survivor Day.

 

FBLA and 21^st Century Leaders Fight Hunger

 

The members of Future Business Leaders of America and 21^st Century Leaders want to thank all of you who gave to our Peanut Butter Food Drive.  With your assistance we were able to collect over 160 jars of peanut butter.  The peanut butter is being sent to a Roswell area food pantry.  Thanks again, as we work to fight hunger in our community.

                                                                                                        

Leader Academy Donates to Homestretch

Last week the Centennial Chick Fil-A Leader Academy sponsored a fun afternoon and evening of Moe’s chips and salsa plus Bingo.  The group raised $350 for Homestretch, an organization providing help to the homeless. CHS Students Win in French Competition

Centennial students had an excellent showing at Le Grand Concours, the National French Contest, an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Students of French in grades 1-12, in all 50 states and abroad, take a written test and compete against students with similar educational background for prizes. 

 

 

Burney Elected District Chair

 

Centennial choral director, Chelsea Burney, was recently elected the District V Choral Chair for the next two year term.  District V includes Fulton County Schools, Atlanta Public Schools, and local private schools.  Congratulations, Ms. Burney!

 

 

 

 

CHS Cadets Join Roswell FD for Ceremony

Cadets MacKenzy Davis and Noah Goodwin were a part of a joint Color Guard with the Roswell Fire Department at the Roswell 65^th Annual National Day of Prayer Ceremony at the Roswell City Hall on Thursday May 5^th, 2016.

 

 

Centennial AVTF Department Accomplishes

Industry Certification

 

 

Congratulations to Mr. Buechner for many hours of hard work and dedication to achieve industry certification for the CHS Audio Visual Technology Film Department.   The Media Education Foundation presented the award to the AVTF program at Centennial, after the team found the program to be strong and well-implemented; the facilities were found to be admirably well equipped and organized.

 

 

 

 

AVTF Produces L.I.F.E. Video

In one of the CHS AVTF Department’s recent projects, Tommy Fuentes , Julia Couch, Gillie Barber, and Mr. Buechner travelled to the Ritz Carlton, Georgia State, Siemens, Verizon, and Kimberly-Clark to film the L.I.F.E. Program, the work program for our CBI students. The picture above is the CHS crew with CBI students who work at Kimberly-Clark. The link will take you to the video they produced.

Murray-Williams Honored as Eagle Scout

Congratulations to Emmanuel Murray-Williams on reaching the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. He joins an elite group of young men who achieve this honor; in fact, only 6% of the total number of eligible scouts last year.  Emmanuel built a fence at Homestretch's Roswell community for his Eagle Scout project.  HomeStretch gives homeless parents and their children a safe and comfortable place to live while simultaneously helping them address the root causes of their situation and return to a life of self-reliance and stability. 

 

 

Doster Honored as Academy Appointee

 

 

Last Sunday, April 17, Centennial senior Hunter Doster was honored at the Academy Appointee Salute with United States Senator Johnny Isakson.  Hunter will be attending the Air Force Academy this fall after a rigorous application and highly selective admissions process.  Congratulations, Hunter!

 

 

GADOE Honors CHS Senior

The Georgia Department of Education ESOL/Title III Department has recognized CHS student Brittany Jimenez for her excellence in academic achievement as one of Georgia’s 2016 Star English Learners.  The “Star English Learner” award is given to ESOL students who are in their senior year of high school and have maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher. The award ceremony will take place at State Superintendent Richard Wood’s annual “Excellence in Achievement” next May.

Flynn Receives Award for Excellence

Last night CHS senior Bailey Flynn received a Yes I Can! award in the area of vocational skills for his excellent work at his off-campus jobsite. Bailey is pictured above with his parents. Below is a blurb from his nomination:

“Bailey has been working at the Fulton County Administrative Building for his jobsite this year. He had extreme anxiety about working off campus and meeting new people, but he was able to overcome that and excel. He has exceeded all expectations! He is excited to go to jobsite every day, has become much more social with his supervisors, has almost memorized all of the schools on every mail route for the county, and looks forward to delivering mail to employees throughout the building. Bailey has made tremendous progress, and his self-confidence has come a long way!”

Girls’ lacrosse schedule enters heart of season

The end of March brings the lacrosse regular season to its midway point with local programs rounding into form.

The Milton girls’ lacrosse team, the defending state champion, has dropped only one contest this season highlighted by a 14-9 road win at Walton on March 10 in a rematch of last season’s state championship game. Jessi Masinko scored a team-high five goals and two assists while Sophie Baez had three goals and two assists in the victory. Sydney Catts won 13 draws.

“It took a while for our offense to get settled and execute,” Milton head coach Tim Godby said. “We were turning the ball over early in the game trying to force things.  Once we settled down, we were able to make plays and score.  We have a lot of tough games ahead of us and lots of things to work on to improve both offensively and defensively.”

Milton will return to action on Thursday at home against Lassiter.

Centennial sees its girls’ team playing well with a 7-3 mark overall and undefeated in area play. The Knights won at Lambert 15-14 on March 24. Senior captain Julia Couch has led Centennial’s offensive effort, scoring a team-high 55 goals along with 30 draw controls and 28 assists. Junior midfielder Abigail Bergman has a team-high nine caused turnovers and 11 goals while junior goalkeeper Celia Senerman has a 49-percent save percentage.

“The team has been doing really well this season and I’m proud at the improvement it’s shown so far,” Knights’ head coach Emily Perling said. “We focus on getting better each half we play and the girls have done a great job of achieving that goal. Julia’s determination and hustle are contagious while Abigail’s shifty moves on attack mixed with her amazing defensive footwork makes her a threat. Celia spent a lot of time this offseason preparing to take on the starting role and it’s shown.”

Centennial will face Creekside out of Jacksonville, Florida in a non-area contest on April 1.

Blessed Trinity is undefeated through nine contests including a 16-1 home win over Holy Innocents’ in an area contest on March 22. Junior Mary Markwordt leads the team in scoring followed by seniors Regan McGovern and Mary Deatrick. Senior Payton Fadem has the most assists while junior Sarah Flatt leads the team in groundballs.

“I’ve been very pleased with our team’s performance so far this season,” Blessed Trinity head coach Liz McFarland said. “They are working together as a unit and are very supportive of each other. We have a terrific group of seniors that are providing great leadership and we have quite a bit of depth. We have great expectations for this season as well as future years.”

The Titans will host Woodward Academy on Thursday.

SkillsUSA Students Place in Top 3 at State Level

 

Alex Larsen, Jake Wehr, Jason Scott (all three pictured top right) and Zach Armbruster (not pictured) won Bronze medals after winning 3rd in the Criminal Justice Quiz Bowl competition.  Brayan Enriquez and Tommy Fuentes (bottom left photo) won Silver medals for placing 2nd in the Television Video Production competition.  

Swiss Exchange Field Trip March 24^th

 

 
 

 

 

 

 

 

The Swiss Exchange students, along with their teachers and Mrs. Skrok, went on their first field trip this week to Roswell for the Roswell Ghost Tour then lunch at Swallow at the Hallow. Students enjoyed the trip very much and really enjoyed the pies for dessert!

 

Interact Members Meet with North Fulton

Swiss Exchange Students Arrive at CHS

 

The World Languages Department is happy to announce the arrival of the Swiss Exchange Students from Sion, Switzerland. We waited anxiously at the airport for their arrival, and were thrilled when they had finally made it to Atlanta! They will be with their American partners until April 1^st. Please welcome them to Centennial during their visit!
