The Knights Men were led by Senior Captain Simon Miller, who achieved a personal best, medaling at 3rd place out of 83 competitors. Sophomore Nick Bray achieved his second consecutive top 8 finish, placing 7th. Senior Captain Joshua Yao was close behind at 10th place. Yao has been the most consistent fencer on the Men’s Team, placing in the top 16 at all four tournaments to date. Also notable was first-year fencer Joshua Bailey at 34th.
For the Lady Knights, Sophomore Maggie Fritts led with a 6th place finish out of 77 competitors, followed by Junior Casey Archambault at 8th place. Both have finished in the top 12 at all four tournaments so far. Personal bests were also achieved by Sophomore Simone Katz at 22nd, and first year fencer Cursten Howard at 26th place.
Coach Gene Gettler is pleased with the steady improvement of the team. The athletes are rapidly filling in the blanks in their skill sets, and stepping up. With Saturday’s performance, the women’s team moved up to 5th place in the state. The men improved their GHSFL rank to 8th, just 1 point behind Lassiter HS.
The Knights next tournament is hosted by Dunwoody HS November 14. Go Knights!
