Blackwell Takes Gold on Home Court

The Centennial Fencing Team hosted 9 schools in a league tournament on Saturday.  Dominating and undefeated on his home turf, Knights Captain Senior Kenneth Blackwell took the gold medal, defeated Walton’s Dylan Kim 15-12 in the final match.  Coach Gettler described Blackwell as being “in the zone” all day with incredible point control.

In the Men’s field of 77 competitors, 8 Knights finished in the top half.  Junior Simon Miller finished 17th, winning his first direct elimination bout but dropping the second one 15-14 in a close-fought bout.  Junior Jackson Barnes also had his personal best, placing 19th after winning his first DE bought at 15-14.  Close behind were Freshman Nick Bray at 21st, Senior Captain Peter Wolff at 27th.  Freshman Dean Bowler continues to show great consistency in his first season, placing 30th.

In the Women’s Field of 47, Centennial Captain and Senior Holly Nichols was impressive with a 7th place finish.  Newcomer Freshman Casey Archambault earned her first top 16 finish, placed 11th with an excellent display of skill.  This qualifies Archambault for the Individual Championships in February, along with 7 other Centennial Fencers who have already qualified.  Freshman Maggie Fritts placed 19th, and Senior Captain Debbie Lowder finished at 28th.

The Knights have one more regular season tournament at South Forsyth on January 31st.  Go Knights!
