The CHS fencers competed
Saturday in a nine-school tournament at South Forsyth High School. In women’s competition, sophomores Casey Archambault (9th
out of 57 women) and Karla Chavez(12th) earned points by placing in
the top 16. Chavez has now qualified
for the Individual Championships.
Senior captains Holly Nichols (17th) and Debbie Lowder (37th)
put in great efforts in their final regular season tournament. Freshmen Maggie Fritts and Olivia and Simone
Katz continued to build on their strong first year campaigns.
Joshua “Paco” Yao was
dominant in the prelimary pools for men, earning a 4th seed in the
field of 71 by going 5-0 in his group.
Following the direct elimination bouts, Kenneth Blackwell (7th)
and Nick Bray (16th) represented the point scorers for the men. Close behind were Yao (17th), Simon Miller (21) , Peter Wolff (22),
Daniel Sandfelder (24), and
Duncan Hemauer (29) .
Next up for Centennial
Fencing is the Individual Championships on February 21st at
Alpharetta High School.
